Panseluta salbatica/Viola arvensis/Field Pansy

This beautiful flower that grows on meadows is the wild sister of a flower called Panseluta in Romania, which is bigger, and grown in gardens and parks.

This wild flower blossoms in April – May. In Romania, it is also called Trei Frati Patati (Three Speckled Brothers), for its tree beautifully colored petals. In English, it is called Field Pansy, or the European Field Violet.

The garden grown variety has more color combinations, the wild ones I have seen are mostly yellow and white, some with a touch of purple.

Scientific name: Viola arvensis
